edifice

January 2016 I exhibited work at Pottery Northwest.  This exhibit was the culmination of my two year residency at PNW.

I was captivated at an early age by the dichotomy of structure and the abstract. Over time I began to understand the ways in which these seemingly different concepts are significantly connected and work in concert with each other. I explore these ideas using architecture as abstract containers, engaged by the protection both provide. I utilize this idea to create concrete manifestations of the spaces we inhabit in our daily lives and our nightly dreams.

My formative years were spent in the postindustrial landscape of the farmlands in Middle America. The landscape of my childhood was scattered with agricultural architecture, industrial equipment and academic buildings that mimicked fortified structures. The exhibit Edifice draws from this imagery.
